The Well is a newer spot that opened in 2024. It offers a wide range of options catering to all diets, but especially for those who are vegan and gluten-free. Indonesian food can be heavy on oils and spices, which can become overwhelming after a while—this place is a great break from that. The Well prides itself on serving food that is free from gluten, seed oils, and refined sugar. Even better, they offer plenty of build-your-own options, and the staff is attentive to dietary needs, making it easy to get exactly what you are craving or what your body needs. They offer options for all meals from smoothie bowls to salads to rice bowls and more!

#2: Mana
Oh Mana, how I love you. This was my go-to spot while I was living in Lombok— I mean sometimes I ate all three meals here because I loved it so much. Their food is freshly made, ALL vegan, clean, and so yummy. I loved that I knew I was eating good food. They have numerous gluten-free options available as well.
The vibes here are very laid back, being attached to their bamboo hut accommodations and yoga shala. If you are looking for the best smoothie bowl, I reccomend heading here. For lunch and dinner, try out their Laksa (the best dish in the world), or their Thai green curry filled with mushrooms, broccoli, and cauliflower.
In the mood for a treat? They have ice cream, brownies, and cookies! I promise you won’t be disappointed.
Best For – All Meals, COOKIES, Healthy Beverages, Gluten-Free, Yoga Enthusiasts

#3: Mushroom Espresso (Best Coffee)
This tiny hipster coffee shop chain serves the best coffee in Lombok. They offer classic coffee drinks alongside some unique options and have plant-based milk to make them all vegan. The seating area is small, with a couple of spots inside near the coffee bar and a few seats outdoors.
Best For - Coffee!

Hours – I will be honest here, I have no clue. I have gone around 9:30 AM before and they were open, as well as at 4:00 PM.

#4: Ashtari
Ashtari serves delicious “slow food” blending Indian, Indonesian, and Western flavors. This is another place with fresh, clean food, perfect whether you are looking for a colorful and healthy salad or a warm bowl of vegan curry. The menu is not entirely vegan, but they do have many different vegan options including smoothie bowls, smoothies, juices, coffees with plant-based milks, desserts, curries, tikkas, and more!
The highlight here is the incredible view the restaurant offers, looking over Kuta and its sparkling blue water. It is truly breathtaking. This is what makes it another one of my favorite spots for setting up work for the day. The wifi is extremely reliable and there are many plugs around for charging devices. They also have cozy indoor floor seating with fans and large open windows to help keep you cool. Keep an eye out for monkeys if you sit close to the trees, sometimes they like to make an appearance!
Beside the restaurant is Ashtari’s yoga shallow, which also has incredible views over Kuta, the ocean, and surrounding hills.
Best For – Lunch, Dinner, Gluten-Free, Yoga Enthusiasts

Mama Pizza is the best italian restaurant in Kuta, Lombok, offering pasta, pizza, seafood, wine, and more. Their more up-scale vibe makes it the perfect spot for a fancy little vegan date night or dinner with friends. I reccomend reserving a table ahead of time if you have a larger group. Indoor and outdoor seating is available. They offer gluten-free options as well, catering to all diets. Mama Pizza is the perfect spot to get your pizza or pasta fix!

#6: Elamu
Elamu, another one of my favorite spots in Kuta, offers some amazing Greek-inspired food and the best falafels in town. Their beautiful Mediterranean decor and cozy vibe make it perfect for another vegan date night or a celebration dinner. No matter what vegan item you order off the menu, you really cannot go wrong.
The restaurant is quite spacious compared to others in Kuta, making it a great spot to work during the morning or afternoon. Their Wi-Fi is reliable, and they have sockets around to charge your devices, as well as delicious coffees. This is an open-air restaurant.

Terra is the only all-raw vegan restaurant in Kuta, Lombok. They offer raw dishes including pizza, local-inspired dishes, sushi, juices, ice cream, desserts, and so much more. Many of their items are gluten-free as well. They offer juice cleanses, order ahead items like raw almond milk, gluten-free banana bread, homemade coconut yogurt, and more. You can see the list on their menu. They often host unique events like learning how they make their farm-to-cup coffee and their kombucha. The restaurant is actually a sister to Ashtari restaurant.

#8: Rezeki
Rezeki is one of the cheapest local warungs in Kuta, Lombok, offering the famous Nasi Campur. Nasi Campur is a rice dish served alongside a variety of side dishes. The restaurant has one room filled with over 30 side dishes, including many vegetarian and vegan curries, jackfruit dishes, tempeh and tofu dishes, and many other vegetable dishes. I have never fully verified with the cooks whether each item is entirely vegan, i.e. no animal oils are sauces. I would reccomend for strict vegans who do not want to consume any animal products to confirm with them.
You can fill your plate up however much or little you want and they will calculate what you owe based on the pricing of each dish and its portion. I can usually fill an entire plate up with vegan/vegetarian items and end up paying between 20,000-35,000 IDR (1-2 USD). It is definitely the best place to eat if you are on a budget—you will not go hungry eating here. I reccomend going around 11:30-12:30 for the freshest food!
Best For – Inexpensive Nasi Campur
What to Order – I love all of the vegetable dishes! The tempeh and tofu currys are delicious as well.
Hours – I am unsure when they open, but I do know they are open by 11:00 AM and stay open late.
Price Range – $

#9: The Warung
The Warung is a fantastic local spot serving up both Indonesian and Western dishes at incredibly affordable prices. Some of my favorites include the vegetarian pad thai, fried tempeh, and tofu/tempeh curry—all packed with flavor and made fresh to order. With prices ranging from just 2 to 3 USD per dish, you can feast without worrying about your budget. The restaurant is small, with only 7–8 tables, so keep that in mind if you visit during popular meal hours. Since everything is made fresh, there can be a bit of a wait when it is busy—but trust me, it is worth it!
Similar to Rezeki, I am unsure which, if any, dishes are entirely vegan. I would suggest checking with the staff ahead of time.
Best For – Local Food and Inexpensive Western Options
What to Order – Tempeh Side (SO Crispy), Pad Thai, Curry (my favorite)
Hours – 11:00 AM - 10:00 PM
Price Range – $
Additional Notes –
Cash Only
Dine In & Take Out — Through WhatsApp.
#10: Cones (Icecream)
Cones is a small fruit-based ice cream bar located in front of Gecko. They serve a vegan coconut base option, which you can add flavor to by selecting one of the fruit add-ons including banana, strawberry, mango, pineapple, mixed berry, and more. They even make the ice cream in the machine in front of you! Once made, you can select which toppings you would like whether it is sauces, rainbow sprinkles, or crushed cookies.
Best For – Ice Cream!
What to Order – The coconut-based ice cream. I prefer adding in banana or mango.
Hours – 2:00 PM - Late (their hours can change, so I reccomend messaging them on Instagram)
Price Range – $
Lombok Restaurant Tips
Many cafes and restaurants do daily deals on food. I suggest checking their Instagrams for up-to-date deals or looking on Lombok Lately.
If you have a group of more than 4, I suggest always making a reservation if you do not want to wait to be seated. Otherwise, head to meals early to secure seats.
Cash is the best form of payment in Kuta to avoid the 3% percent credit card charge. Many local spots do not accept cards.
Be patient—Kuta works on island time, so service can be slower.
Be mindful of food hygiene – Stick to places with good reviews only to avoid food-related issues.
Always check the restaurant’s hours and updates on Instagram, hours often change due to local holidays and time of year.
Tiga is a great spot to purchase specific vegan items for cooking at home.
In the mood for some Chinese-inspired food? Try Jiang Nan—I reccomend the Mushroom Mapo Tofu
Looking for some Mexican food? Try the Mexican In Town— I reccomend the jackfruit dishes.
The best spots on Tanjung Aan Beach: Warung Turtle & Pink Swing
The best views in Lombok: Ashtari & Folk Cafe
The best gluten-free menu: The Well
The best for families with small children: The Well
The best for working: Munchies, Gecko, Curfew, Ashtari
Lombok Travel Guide: FAQs & Essential Info
How To Get To Lombok:
Flying To Lombok:
To get to Lombok, you can fly into the international airport in Praya (LOP). I suggest looking on Kiwi.com or Skyscanner.com for the best flight deals.
Pro Tip: Many foreigners traveling to Indonesia receive a 30-day Visa on Arrival upon entry for 500,000 IDR (30 USD) that can be extended an additional 30 days for an additional fee. You can find more information on which countries qualify and apply for this VOA online, here.
The airport is around 30 minutes from Kuta, and local taxis and Grab Drivers are available to bring you to your accommodation. The cost should be around 150,000 IDR (9-10 USD). Be sure to counter the local drivers' prices—they will try to get you to pay more.
Ferrying From Bali, The Gili’s, Etc:
There are also numerous ferries daily from various ports in Bali to either the Bangsal/Senggigi Port in North Lombok. These ferries average around 3 to 4 hours (although the one I took felt much longer). I would not recommend this option to anyone who is easily seasick. They can be choppy the entire journey. The ferry cost varies from $12-30 USD, depending on the season. I always book ahead by searching on 12GoAsia or messaging the ferry companies directly on WhatsApp. If you decide to arrive in Lombok by ferry, you must hire a taxi from the Bangsal Port to your accommodation in Kuta, Lombok. The price is usually around 350,000 - 400,000 IDR (22-25 USD) for the 2-hour ride down.
Public Ferries are an option for those who have more time and maybe want to pinch some pennies on their journey. The ferry is 4.5-6 hours long and departs from Padang Bai (Bali), sailing into Lembar (South-West Lombok). The cost is around 80,000 IDR (5 USD), and you can bring a motorbike onto the ferry with you. When you get to Padang Bai, you can ask the locals working at the ferry port where to buy a ticket for the public ferry to Lembar, and they should be able to direct you. There is no need to buy a ticket ahead of time for this option. If you do not have a motorbike with you on the ferry, you will need to hire a driver to take you from Lembar Port in Lombok to Kuta. No taxi drivers are waiting in the port and Grab rarely works.

Best Time To Visit Lombok:
Rainy Season: November - March | Dry Season: April - October
The best time to visit Lombok is anytime during the dry season, however, the surf tends to be better during the wet season (less windy). If you want to see Lombok at its greenest, you can visit during the wet season or right after (in March/April) if you prefer sunny skies and green hills. If you visit towards the end of the dry season Lombok’s terrain will be drier and brown. I have been in Lombok for every season, and it did not rain too much in November / December. It was mostly short showers or one full day of rain. January and February were very rainy, and March was somewhere in the middle.
If you plan to Trek Rinjani, keep in mind the trail is closed from January 1 to March 31.
Where To Stay In Kuta, Lombok:
The downtown/main area in Kuta is quite small, following along two roads that intersect with one another. Along them, you will find everything you need from places to eat and a grocery store to gyms and padel. This is the area of Lombok that most closely resembles places in Bali like Uluwatu, however, it is much less busy and Westernized.

HOW to get around Lombok:
The best form of transport in Lombok is by motorbike. Points of interest in Lombok, even just in Kuta, are a bit spread apart, and the area is very hilly, so quite impossible. It is also easier to cover more ground when you can move about on your own accord.
Daily motorbike rentals are usually around 75,000/80,000 IDR (per day) for a small motorbike or scoopy. If you plan to have two people and bags on one bike, renting a bigger bike with more CC is best. The bigger the bike, the more expensive it will be, but you will have an easier time climbing hills, especially near Rinjani. You will find better deals for longer-term rentals versus daily. Be sure to negotiate pricing, as some places will throw out a more expensive price to see if you will take it.
Motorbike Tips:
Be sure to wear your helmet while riding.
Some roads around Kuta are not properly paved, so watch out for potholes, etc.
Be careful of trucks, especially once you are outside of downtown Kuta—they are reckless drivers.
Be careful of dogs crossing the street while riding!!
I Prefer To Have A Driver:
Local taxis are around, and you can usually hire one from your accommodations, but they can become expensive. Grab and Gojek are not as prominent in Kuta yet.
Those who prefer private drivers between each destination in Lombok can hire a private driver for each day here. (I.e. Kuta to Tetebatu, Tetebatu to Sembalun, Sembalun to Bangsal Port). Or, many of the locals are happy to arrange a driver for the day for you as well.
HOW MANY DAYS DO YOU NEED IN LOMBOK?
This all depends on what you want to do. If you only want to see Kuta and catch some waves, then 1-3 days is fine. Although, most people end up staying for an entire week. If you want to trek Rinjani, visit the waterfalls, and do all the best things, then yes, 5 days is fine, but 8-10 offers a more relaxed schedule. Then again, I stayed here for over a year!
You can find the perfect 7-10 day Lombok itinerary here!
IS LOMBOK SAFE?
Lombok has always felt safe to me and I lived there for an entire year. However, I recommend staying up to date with your country’s travel advisories. Follow basic rules of safety while traveling in addition to:
Always triple-check vaccination requirements and recommendations for countries. Some potential illnesses include Typhoid and Hepatitis A.
Pack mosquito spray to protect yourself from Dengue and Malaria. There have been recent cases of Dengue in the region.
Wear your helmet when riding your motorbike. So many people do not wear helmets, which could save your life.
Be careful with the street dogs. Due to previous abuse, some tend to be afraid of humans or feel the need to warn us off to protect themselves.
DO NOT drink the tap water. Keep your mouth closed in the shower and even use bottled water for toothbrushing, especially if you have a sensitive stomach like me!
Mistakes can happen, especially when trekking and walking around slippery areas or surfing, so I recommend always having some form of travel medical insurance. Safety Wing is by far the best travel medical insurance. It has saved me numerous times by covering hospital visits when I was sick during my travels in Asia.
Get an eSIM—so you do not get lost navigating your way. I always use Airalo for my eSim.
Emergency Contact Number: Police: 110 | Fire: +62 (0)370 672013| Ambulance: 118
You can find a complete list of Lombok and Gili Island’s Emergency #’s here.
THERE ARE SO MANY STRAY DOGS IN LOMBOK, HOW CAN I HELP?
Lombok’s culture is MUCH different from Bali's, and the island is far less developed–therefore the dogs are treated very differently here.
Without getting into the nitty-gritty of what life is like for stray dogs, just know that you can make a positive impact on their lives in some of the simplest ways. This can be through something as simple as giving a street pup a meal, rice, and plain chicken is best, or something to drink like water or even coconut water! A lot of the dogs are terrified of human interaction here, especially as you get further out of downtown Kuta, so you can always place the food and water nearby to the dog and then give it some space to eat and enjoy. I promise you they will eat it once you walk away!
If you want to be more involved, you can volunteer with The Shelter for Lombok Dogs (my favorite place in the world) by helping with sterilizations, feeding the baby street pups, or helping at their shelter near Mawun Beach. If you want more information on how you can help, head here!
If you are thinking: ‘Feeding and volunteering is not for me,’ you can also donate money to their GoFundMe, donate items they need (usually collars, towels, medications, etc.), or purchase some of their merchandise from Flow or Elamu! Every donation makes a huge difference in the lives of the Lomdogs!
